#How to convince my gran not all mics are the same?
14 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Literally she thinks it's all the same and that my mic now is just fine. Yes, it is, but I want to upgrade and go further. It took a lot of convincing to even get her to MAYBE get me acoustic panels for Christmas. I understand she's old but dang.. this is frustrating.
sure can't wait for all the questions as the equipment comes in 💀 /s
if you haven't you should at least show her what you do/would like to do. Also show her behind the scene of voice over, maybe some anime behind the scene, and then if you also know the mics like tlm 103, u87, you can instead of telling her you show her, you know what you're trying to do, my parents watch anime with me all the time, so they know what I would like to do...
Problem. I've tried. She doesn't think VO is a "real job" and such.
many don't think it is, and honestly, it may not be, this is why most vo do more than one single things, and even where they're working. your job should be showing her it's worth it.
@willow onyx honestly itll be hard to convince her with that mindset of hers, i could provide a long answer but to her itll seem so wordy
Go for it if you'd like. I just.. she isn't mean about it to me directly, but I wish she'd not make so many comments.
Five key factors that differentiate high-quality microphones from low-quality microphones when it comes to voice over work.
Frequency Response
High-quality microphones typically have a more accurate and wider frequency response, which means they are able to capture a greater range of sounds and frequencies. This is important for voiceover work because it allows the microphone to capture the full range of the human voice, including subtle nuances and inflections. Low-quality microphones, on the other hand, may have a more limited frequency response, which can result in a less accurate and less natural-sounding recording.
Noise Handling
High-quality microphones are also typically better at handling noise and background distractions. They have a higher signal-to-noise ratio, which means that the signal (the sound being recorded) is much stronger relative to the noise (background sounds). This allows for a clearer and more focused recording, even in noisy environments. Low-quality microphones may struggle to differentiate between the signal and the noise, resulting in a less clean and less professional recording.
Dynamic Range
The dynamic range of a microphone refers to the range between the quietest and loudest sounds it can capture. High-quality microphones typically have a wider dynamic range, allowing them to accurately capture both very soft and very loud sounds. This is important for voiceover work because it allows the microphone to capture the full range of the human voice, including both soft and loud volumes. Low-quality microphones may have a more limited dynamic range, which can result in a less versatile and less expressive recording.
Consistency
High-quality microphones are also typically more consistent in their performance. They are less prone to variations in sound quality based on factors such as the angle of the microphone to the sound source, the distance between the microphone and the sound source, and the ambient noise level. This means that you can expect a more consistent and reliable recording when using a high-quality microphone. Low-quality microphones may be more prone to variations in sound quality, which can make it harder to achieve a consistent and professional recording.
Overall, high-quality microphones offer a number of benefits for voiceover work, including a more accurate and natural-sounding recording, better noise handling, a wider dynamic range, and greater consistency. In contrast, low-quality microphones may produce recordings that are less accurate, less natural-sounding, and less consistent, which can make it more difficult to achieve professional-quality results.
Thank you! I'll definitely use this. I'll have to word it in more simpler terms for her but I think I can do that.
I don't think the VO scene was as big as it is now when she was younger lol so
Oh hold on
1.) High-quality microphones have a more accurate and wider frequency response, which allows them to capture a greater range of sounds and nuances in the human voice.
2.)They also have a higher signal-to-noise ratio, which makes them better at handling noise and background distractions, resulting in a clearer and more focused recording.
3.)High-quality microphones have a wider dynamic range, allowing them to capture a wider range of volume levels in the human voice.
4.)They are also more consistent in their performance, producing a more consistent and reliable recording.
In contrast, low-quality microphones may have a more limited frequency response, making them less accurate and natural-sounding. They may also struggle to handle noise and background distractions, resulting in a less clean recording. They may also have a more limited dynamic range, making them less versatile and expressive. Finally, they may be more prone to variations in sound quality, making it harder to achieve a consistent and professional recording.
That'll be easier for her to understand. Thank you (and honestly thanks for the education lol, i didn't know all of this!)
