I haven't done any vocal work or projects before, but I want to start! Are there any cheap ways to get better sound? My mic I've been using (it's a headset for gaming, anything that is like this would be so helpful) makes me sound like I'm in a fishbowl. I don't have much money but are there any easy fixes for this? And also!! I'm scared that my mama will find out about it, so if it can be small that's really helpful.
#My mic sounds like a fishtank.

The walls in my house are super thin too... if she finds out I'm trying something like this I'd be so embarrassed... I'm not ready for her to discover this.
Headset microphones are almost all awful. You'd be much better off using your phone if you want to try. Find a space in your room with a bunch of soft stuff and use a voice record app to start
This ^^
If you’re going to record with your phone I recommend trying to make your own little soundproofed space in your closet using a blanket and the clothes inside of the closet itself! Here’s a fairly in depth guide on youtube that should help you set up this space https://youtu.be/5Se381sERrY
Here is a rundown of the equipment I used for voiceover when I travel: http://kit.co/mikedelgaudio/portable-voiceover-setup-for-travel
I'm on vacation and needed to submit an audition. I created a high quality vocal booth -- for free -- using stuff I had on hand, in about 10 minutes. Watch how.
If you don’t have a closet you can make a little pillow / blanket box like in these photos over here
If you do have a closet you could set your phone up like this, it’s similar to the one in the video I sent up there.

How to record vocals and voice overs with free or cheap acoustic treatment. READ BELOW FOR TONS OF RESOURCES!
How does a cheap microphone in a professional vocal booth sound compared to an expensive microphone in an untreated room? Also, I show you how you can record in your crappy sounding room with some tips and tricks.

You cant really fix the fishbowl sound since that’s all dependant on what kind of hardware you’re using, I recommend following Marks advice on using your phone instead since most phones have better quality than a headset microphone.
The stuff I sent you should reduce noise, it’s not good/perfect but it’ll help improve your audio quality a bit and make sure not too much sound gets to the other side of those thin walls of yours.
If you have any wired apple earphones, the microphone quality on it is surprisingly great! You definitely should try it out if you do own it! If you don’t have it, it’s completely fine! But don’t worry, your phone should definitely do the trick @bronze inlet.
SOUNDPROOF!
A genius endeavor!
I unfortunately cannot use my phone, I got the headset specifically because my phone's microphone sounds like I'm underwater (the headset is more fishbowl sound but you can still hear me which is good!!! I like water similes.)
I have an android phone! Which is unfortunate because I don't have apple headphones and I've heard how great they are...
But the soundproofing is genius!!! I lack a closet but I definitely have space to create something with blankets and pillows!!!
Thank you!
Is there anyway to improve audio through phone?
You could try following the guide on this site and see if any of these tricks work https://www.makeuseof.com/improve-sound-quality-samsung-galaxy/
Ahh awesome!!
I appreciate everyone I just can't look at these right now, ahah! If I resolve this does that mean it goes away???
