Yes points and buffers are the main core. Without points you can tell the train which rail track to travel along. With out buffers then the train does not stop and it just keeps going. Which can be bad if it ends up going through the base and destroying buildings. But fun waiting for this update to come out.

u can already use it on expi build, just be aware that its a base build and not really ment to use in a savegame atm

Game has switches. But manual switches implies manual trains or uncontrolled. Yoy control the train directly and can choose track directly, or it routes itself. Signals in game set up route directions and pathing rules.
Turntable could be neat, but how big should it be. No real need for it. You can pick uo a train and spin it around or loop a track and have the train run itself.

yes manual switches or even automatic switches would be fun to uses. specially the automatic switches that would be grate help for automatic trains where player is not controlling the trains. where just travel form one base to another base drop of cargo and picking up cargo. manual switches could be good for goods yard where player wants more control where rolling stock is stored or other.

no i have not run any train yet. i looked at the train and rolling stock by placing them on the rail track. i placed rail track on see what i can make from it. yes did see signal for red danger stop and green clear to go. but i did not see points moter for moving the points.

Oh. Given it a play with. Its not trying to be a train simulator, it lets you set train schedule and the train sets the route. Signals are used to constraints the routes it chooses.
