Honestly Sunday has kinda been turning into a no work day
Which im kinda not against gives me a full day break
Helpful with preventing burnout
The motivation is high today
Lemme explain rq
So the ending currently takes me down to 20 fps which kinds makes everything at the end look really choppy
This is because I’m loading in 600 particles at that same time
Now the fix here is to use some sorta of particle cache so, once a particles are finished they can be reused without making new particles
Now my particle cache is broken
Each animation manipulates both the attachments and the size of the particles created
So I need to work out why its not being reset
And the best way to do that is to make a smaller version and find out exactly why it’s not working
Once that is done i think gradually loading in the particles over 1-4 seconds would also be a good move
And if this isn’t enough then we look into other optimisation methods
Currently im already bulking every single particle into 1 heartbeat loop as quite a major optimisation
Anyway so this is today’s job
Maybe I could implement my own culling system so that very quick particles are removed the second they are out of frame, frees up more particles that can be used for the cache
Theres also the option of using bulkmoveto
That would require some changes though and the script is already horrendous

the orange basically acts like a waiting room for particles which have finished being used, and are ready to be reused again
using this method that entire blob thing only uses 27 images and never no more

Unique particle allocation
Basically what I’m thinking is we basically reserve a certain amount of particles from the cache only to be used for that particle
Let’s say the cache starts at 600 particles, 200 get allocated for the larger explosions which basically all those particles need to be on screen at the same time
I’ve not tested this but I’m 99% sure that when the large explosion happens at the end the cache is being exceeded and thus needing to clone more particles to keep up
When it should instead already have those particles ready
And when those particles are done with we can just return them to the cache freeing up all those particles
For the radial lines thing I’m currently using an implementation which essentially replicates how particles work.
If the lifetime for example is 1
Particle on screen
Particle lifetime expires
Particle is moved back to the “global cache” where it can be reused for anything
My new idea is that
Particle on screen
Lifetime expires
Instead of resetting all the properties and moving it back to the cache, we basically just reuse that particle instantly for the same thing
Which should in theory reduce a bunch of property writes

i think i just need to edit the timings for when phase 1 starts

im very pleased that people like the impact frames looking in the etoh chats
those easily took the most time up
and the most annoying to work with
i honestly kinda just spammed stuff together until it worked
theres actually some like imperfection frames
when removed it looks worse
which is interesting to me
lemme give example
so when the frames first start
and then it cuts to the ball for a second (accidently)
and then white screen
and then basically resumes
this frame doesnt make sense and shouldnt exist
using that logic i removed it and it actually looked way worse
