This is already a supported process from danielga
- use his 64bit branch on
garrysmod_common - set the premake5 file to use generator version
3 premake5as normal
Maintaining a whole repo just to build his project isn't a good use of your time.
That aside, it's also risky for the user. You could be putting anything in those release artifacts.
its there as a convenience and for any upcoming issues danielga wont fix, he said he wont support 64bit
just get GitHub actions to build it
When you release prebuilt binaries like this, you have to work off of a baseline of trust.
I'm like 99% sure that danielga, FredyH, etc. won't upload a malicious release
so then just dont download it?
And danielga has said that a number of times, but for some reason, almost all of his modern libraries build for 64bit 🤔
Hey man spend your time how you like, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone use prebuilts from a fork.
mfw the entire linux ecosystem collapses
Lol, if you were operating at the level of a popular linux flavor I wouldn't be saying anything
It's whatever though man, I just wish danielga would realize that people are using the 64bit branch
He acts like it's some obscure thing that a dozen people use
look where im coming from if he wont then i will, 99% of people on gmod wont bother compiling it themself and stay on 32bit, i just want to provide a prebuilt for them
and why would i post malicious stuff on my personal github that i also use for work
Yeah I get you. I don't think you will, but I also don't know you. That's the trouble
technically not supported, doable yes, but danielga said himself he currently isn't looking to make sure it's stable enough for 64-bit just yet, so if it works it works, and if it doesn't work, well tough shit. https://github.com/danielga/gmsv_serversecure/issues/82#issuecomment-1050141665
plus, i did this process myself, and it caused a bunch of segfaults i didn't feel like resolving myself, so having someone else build it is preferable (assuming it doesn't also segfault)
(or root you)
