#Missing particles on a stock game with all content mounted?

For reasons unknown to me; the game can't seem to find some hl2/episodic particles despite having the games mounted? It only seems to complain about a few particle files, mostly hunter and antlion particles, but it's still strange since I haven't seen these messages until I started playing again recently. Just to be sure I've removed all my mods and cleared my workshop cache, but even vanilla I see these errors. Is this a bug with a recent update, is my game broken somehow?

if your hl2 up to date? Is it the anniversary one or pre update one? It needs to be updated

This looks correct, I can't seem to get it to detect a new one and the date lines up. I even checked ep2 to be sure.

yeah the episodes are not mounted anymore, its all built into hl2 now

Should I try verifying my hl2/gmod/both through steam then?

try launching hl2 and see if you got the options for ep2 and ep1 in the main menu

👍

Weird, I tried to play and it said the exe was missing. Tried again and it's redownloading files, maybe the install got maimed at some point. I'll let you know what happens after I get it launched and try to launch gmod again.

#

Still happened after downloading the missing files and verifying I saw the options for ep1+2 on the main menu. I started verifying the episodes and a ton of files were missing from them too, no idea how my installs got so messed up but hopefully this actually fixes it

#

Yeah steam thought the episodes were installed but they were missing a huge amount of content

agile hazel

yeah again, they are not mounted by Garry's Mod anymore, they are included in base HL2, you dont need to have them installed for gmod

I thought the way it worked is since they're tools now the content of the tool is added into the actual game if you own the tool and have it installed, so if the tool was missing files those files don't make it to the game?

#

Either way, it did seem to fix my issue

agile hazel
#

no, the episodes install separately I think, so having them and hl2 installed wastes double the disk space is all

No idea how it works if that's the case

agile hazel
#

yeah, not sure

halcyon horizon
#

Thanks for the help though, it was complicated to understand but at least the issue itself was a simple fix

agile hazel
#

this is the folders for the episodes in hl2's install directory

I really don't know why verifying the episodes fixed it then when verifying the base game didn't

#

Cause what you're saying does make complete sense to me

#

The content should already be there

maybe valve added some weird hacks if you have the tool versions installed, idk
