That's really cool. Does performance degrade significantly when many decals are used?
hell nah, they're rendered once to the texture and then model is drawn again with one material with decals
performance can go down when modifying one decal but only on models with high triangle density

That's really awesome. Is it UV-dependant? How does it handle models with symmetrical UVs?
yeah it depends on UV. If surface has same UVs as other surface then both of them will have same decal.
here's an example, there's only 1 decal but it's being drawn on all sides of the cube because all of them share same UV coordinates
i'll probably make a model analyzer for UV overlaps so you'll know which model will have broken decals
