just because it's not responding doesn't mean it's crashed or not working anymore. loading can sometimes take a minute or two, especially if it's a very large map or if you have a weak pc

look at this panel in the upper right corner of Hammer and make sure that it's set to Groups or Objects
if you're still not getting the right screen after doing that, you need to make sure your trigger brush is actually tied to a trigger entity. select the brush, press Ctrl+T (or Tools -> Tie to Entity) and then set the class to trigger_multiple
