Yes thats a main point but i think the story is overall focused on life instelve and shows it throught the hardship of highschoolers that life doesnt really have a meaning or purpose to try and reach for it but there is still a light and worth in life that you must keep on going I really like the idea of a static world vs a world thats forever changing that is shown in sonnyboy the whole theme about life is not done too much in other anime or stuff in general thats why I liked it alot
