#Steam Deck cannot keep connection, then freezes

When I try to play with friends on my Steam Deck (they are all on PC if that matters) I am able to join, but quickly start lagging out until I lose connection entirely. The popup that asks if I want to reconnect just defaults back to "no" every time I pick "yes" and never reconnects. When I pick "no" it puts me back to the menu but my character glitches and just kind of flashes, and the whole game locks up and I have to close it. This happened on two different wifi connections, both of which are generally stable. (Last night, in fact, my boyfriend was playing on his PC on the same wifi I was using, and had no issues or lag. Just me on the Deck.) I did try playing Unrailed 1 tonight and there were zero connection issues. It's something specifically with Unrailed 2 on the Steam Deck.

What else can I try to troubleshoot this? I'm stumped.

Mhh it looks like the network gets congested at some point (maybe someone is taking the bandwidth from your local network?) . It could also be related to the host. Do you have issues when you are hosting (or another friend)? Does playing with your boyfriend work on the same local network (this is supposed to work almost lag-free)?

Yeah, we tried at least once when we were both at his place on his connection. I think the first attempt was hosted by one of his friends across the country, on the 23rd. The 24th I think was when he was hosting and I was trying to join while at his place. The 25th I was at home and he was at his place. I ran into the same behavior each time. The only times I was successfully able to play on the Steam Deck was when he invited me to play by Steam Remote Play.

I can test hosting on the Deck from my place probably later tonight if that would be helpful.

I hosted on my Steam Deck, each of us at our places, and it was fine. So it's just joining?

Mhh very strange. I'll do some more tests with our Deck. Is the framerate stable 60fps or is it running slower (eg you chose rather high settings)?

It seemed stable until it froze up? But tbh I wasn't looking so I can't truly confirm.

Going to say - I play on deck with local multiplayer (not online) and it is just fine. However, during local play I will randomly get a message popping up on my screen saying “Logged out” and then maybe 2-3 minutes after “Successfully logged in”.

Possibly related? I am not losing internet connection or logging out of steam myself so

After that disconnect we tried playing by Remote Play Together, and after one level it froze up entirely on my Deck. I don't see a log file for that one though.

For this log file, I was playing on my Deck, at Boyfriend's house, he's on his desktop.

@stone pagoda @eternal steppe Could you add the steam fps perfomance overlay to figure out if this is GPU or CPU related ?
Also not sure if Steamdeck is able to do this a video could improve things from our side.
