I'm a big fan of Unrailed! who exclusively played on Switch with friends prior to playing the U!2 demo.

To us the demo seemed like it was not ready for prime time. We made it through the tutorial after some difficulty figuring out how to play together, and then connection difficulties in the first biome just made us give up.

In short, it was confusing to have to open up the options menu and choose 'go online'. It didn't help that controller buttons and/or menu buttons would randomly seem to be unresponsive, and so I couldn't tell if the game was working or not. We then had the issue where once connected to online it would default to hosting and we were unable to figure out how to find or join other player lobbies. A button on the main screen for online play that would automatically connect to online without having to open the settings menu to manually connect would be helpful. Also the icon to open the settings menu (I was using a switch controller) was very confusing. It looked like a plus sign, but it was so large that I thought it referred to the D-Pad, not the Plus button.

We then experienced connection issues in the first biome. The players who disconnected could not figure out how to find or join player lobbies, and could seemingly only host as I previously stated. We just gave up at that point.

My main gameplay gripe was how slippery the controls felt. The characters seemed to move very fast and it was hard to farm materials because in the first game you could tilt the control stick towards the material you wanted to farm and keep it tilted/push your character into the material to be farmed. But in U!2 if you do that you will start to farm the material, and then you will move around it. It makes it hard to farm small areas/individual tiles of material. The cartridge abilities are a super cool idea, but the one that makes you go faster seems unhelpful. I'd love one that makes you move slower, though!

i will point out that if you just do new game right away you have this handy dandy button waiting for you

#

and join game gives you these options to easily join others

Yeah now I’m sitting here and I can’t get the join game button to do anything anymore. It worked twice for me out of 100+ clicks

#

I tried to click the “go online” option in settings to see if that would help, but it just made the game freeze.

that sounds more like problems running the game itself tbh

All of us had the same issues, I didn’t realize it would be such a resource-intensive game…
