And I'm not talking about fundamental AI changes, just small things like covering their face, wearing gloves, having accomplices or partners cover for them, and generally leaving less evidence.

This would scale with game progress, so later cases have less evidence on average

if i find a fingerprint nowdays i just immedietly book it to the victims job if i find a fingerprint on the crime scene and break and enter my way to the employee records and 9/10 times the fingerprint matches

I like this idea. There could be a lot of ways to scale this up. Think of all of the possible avenues to investigate on a crime. Let say there are Finger prints, foot prints, hand writing, CCTV footage, incriminating emails, sales records and witnesses putting them near the crime. (there may be more)
So as the game goes on, maybe reduce the amount of available evidence, or even usable evidence.
For example, maybe they wore some type of disguise and the CCTV footage does not completely match on someone (hair and eyes covered). Or they used a fake name when making the purchase (a name that does not match on the government database). Maybe there are no fingerprints to find.
So as you gain reputation for solving murders, the murderers get smarter. Instead of 6 evidence routes, it narrows down as you progress, having some leads be dead ends, or that evidence was covered up some how.
No crime should be 100% full proof, and maybe if the case goes long enough (every 5 murders) the murderer could slip up and open up one of those covered evidence trails.

the core of this idea is that it's just a simple "remove this evidence from a case", without actually having physical "gloves" or "masks" to find, just as an excuse why the cases get harder

This goes hand in hand with my old and forgotten "Intelligent Murderers" suggestion.
