Every time I've eaten anything out of my fridge, I've gotten a belly ache and want to puke. We have hobs and ovens, not to mention frying pans, being able to cook these foods would have with a money sink as well a more immersive day to day experience.

Being able to cook at all would be really nice. It doesn't need to be fancy, just let hte meats be cookable over a stoves open flame, being able to spice it would be nice but its unnecessary if it makes it too complex.

What I really want is to be able to just have the commercial coffee machine actually produce coffee.

#

I dont mind vending machines in my home, but if you have a commercial coffee machine you should just be able to use it to make coffee, and using it in a diner should be considered an illegal act.

It's all synthetic, there's no reason to cook it. You don't get sick because it's raw produce, because it's not. The only reason you get sick from actual raw meat irl is because of bacteria and parasites, which are killed when it reaches a certain temperature (chicken, for example, at 165F or 74C) for it to be rendered safe for consumption.

This is because the animals have the bacteria and parasites when they are alive, and remain with them when they die and are gutted. Synthetic meat is... synthetic, not from a living animal, and therefor there's no reason to cook it.

You get sick from consuming synthetic products because it's unhealthy synthetic products. This is (imo) a HORRIBLE feature in the game. If you want your game to be a little more normal, simply disable the sickness effect in gameplay options when creating a new save. It might also be toggleable mid-game, though I'm unsure.

I think they should overhaul/update the food & water system. No matter how dystopian, humans cannot operate on purely synthetic product. I feel like the whole dystopian thing is annoying because it's just a part of the lore that idgaf about, and at times, it ruins the gameplay.. but if it were to be kept, at least make it so that there is either natural food, or synthetic food doesn't cause sickness.

THere's plenty of reasons to cook it, like IRL, to appease human senses and indulge in sensory experiences.

AKa, texture and taste, the entire reason we have recipes rather then just cooked unspiced vegetables and fruits next to uncooked meats, even synthetic stuff IRL we force to have tastes and textures that are palletable, even in the game they do that. And its clearly the entire reason they have pans, woks, and stoves along with entire businesses dedicated around cooking synthetic pork in said woks at stalls and vendors on the street.

So there's not only a reason, but ingame the lore and atmosphere completely suggests we should be able to, along with just human nature. Totally correct on the whole bacteria part when it comes to cooking, you're jsut forgeting the other reasons we cook and parts of the human experiencing and not just dietary ones.

#

Although I suppose none of this really is anything that contradicts or matters to asking for an addition for a gameplay feature. Just more so justifications on why it should/shouldn't exist.

Oh, and side note worth mentioning, but vegan foods now use synthetic products entirely, not just half way or partially andquite a few of these synthetic products use methods using super bacteria's and still have to be cooked. Even normal non-vegan synthetic products sometimes still have be cooked because there's toxic components to them that are reduced or neutralized with heat, alot of asian markets deal with them, korea, japan, etc.

synthetic being inherently safe isn't really true, but I wouldn't compare modern day sciences to shadow of doubts. since we have no idea if its better or worse in that department.

Also we have no idea how the synthetic meats are produced to even know if it needs to be cooked or not, ontop of the whole, we cook things IRL and even ingame because humans are super driven by sensory experiences like tasty things with spiced or mixed into recipes.

#

Personally I wouldn't argue sciences against or instead of human nature anyways, rarely are we driven to a certain sensation or experience with the idea if its good or not for us consciously. Its why so many markets like junk food are so popular, or just human nature in general.

But yee.

But the government doesn't care about a human's senses. It's dystopian, if they cared, they'd harvest real meat from real animals. I believe the pans and toggleable stove-tops are one of two things;

  1. Filler, things that were somewhat easy to develop and left for "more detail" (like the batteries and pencil sharpeners)
  2. Setting up the game for future updates, so they could build off of the "useless" content and make features out of them.
I simply do not see a future update changing the food, because it's not an important aspect of the game, and adding details such as cooking will not change the synthetic base for tthe foods, and therefor you'll still be throwing up synthetic meat, except it's cooked now.

The only reason veganism would exist in the dystopian Shadows of Doubt, is because synthetic food is much easier to make and pump out and sell as a product like every other object. And even then, this still changes absolutely nothing.. they don't care about quality, they care about quanity and sales. They also have no interest (like our IRL government) about us being healthy.

Well, I'd argue that it's much, much worse, as the original government is being overtaken by companies. Police force (meaning their forensics department too) has been replaced with Enforcers. This does not provide a stable base for the FDA, and if it does, they'll be paid off, or even more ridiculous than the IRL FDA and approve extremely unhealthy things such as corn syrup.

Look at our everyday foods. Tortillas are supposed to be refrigerated uncooked, and then cooked on a pan before they are used. Instead, they are cooked before, and filled with preservatives so they can be kept in the pantry. They want as little steps as possible in modern foods for "convenience". That is IRL.. this is dramatized in-game, and I doubt any amount of synthetic meat would require cooking, as it's all synthetic and left in the fridge as it's only means of preservation.. and there's no spoilage system, so if you put the synthetic meat on the floor for 5 months it'll still be the same "quality" product as before.
