The very last murder should be your own

This might be experimental at best and far-fetched at worst, but the investigations always feel so impersonal, and the last investigation that brings you up to Level 8 is always so anticlimactic. I think a good way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone would be to have the killer target you.
There's a couple ways you could do this; maybe you've been poisoned and you need to find who did it in 24 hours to find the antidote, or maybe a pipe bomb gets sent to your apartment and leaves you badly injured. Murder mysteries always hit harder when it's personal, so I figure this could serve as a sort of "final boss" if you will.

I'd love if, after naming your successor and retiring, you get killed (or didn't managed to find the antidote or whatever) and the game starts over with you playing as whoever you chose for your successor, solving the murder of your past character.

My problem with this is it forces an ending. I only retired once to see what happens but usually when i reach max level I just keep playing.

I mean, no reason why you necessarily have to retire once you solve it. You don't have to die at the end if you'd rather keep solving cases.

I dont like this.... It forses you to solve who did it in the limited time and leaves you wonded.... However.... Maybe last case could be Sams kidnaper.... Lisen Sam left.... It would be a great twist for people who played tutorial... And those who didnt would think of him as another citisen.....While i like the game to have more endings... Like a retirement... Or friends forever.... While think it would be nice to have more options then just one ending..... Its nice to have open ended game.... I dont whana die at the end if i fuck up my last mission.
