#A train to other islands

Peeking in on modder chat, it looks like as the island grows in size, it becomes extremely taxing to your cruncher. A train might be a cool way to add a train station location that connects to other islands separated by a loading screen. Lots of potential for things like building types that might not be in your playthrough due to the pigeon hole principle. Can also add an interesting ability for out of towners to commit murders or for residents to flee if they are on the run. Extradition and all that.

Why a train instead of a ferry?

Oh I like that too. Ferry's have stations

#

Okay I like that better

#

Same idea, just ferrys 😄

or maybe both? Like a cluster of islands could be linked closely together via train and ferries could lead to whole new clusters

Only one problem I'll mention, if we did this, what if the killer goes to the other islands where you have to question maybe hundreds of newer people, scam new finger prints, and render in the new city and everything the npcs do over there in that one area,

ngl that sounds wonderful, maybe a game setting where you can disable cross-island murder (or enable it)

I would imagine train rides aren't free

100% this would add so much more depth to the game, and its not insanely difficult to add. i suppose

As fantastic as this sounds, I worry about the difficulty of coding this in as well as the large thunk it would cause to performance.

#

The other islands could potentially just remain invisible when the player ain’t visiting, but the extra NPC calculations from those islands’ occupants would still cause performance issues.

Perhaps it is best to stay put to one island for now.

i thought it was literally just connecting multiple city files
