If two compatible pokémon are kept in the daycare, there is a chance they'll produce an egg as you catch pokémon**. The more compatible they are, the higher the chance. If you don't want your pokémon in the daycare to gain XP / evolve, you can equip them with XP Blocker / Everstone respectively.

How compatible they are depends on four things: parents having different original owners / being same species / having a discovered and at least 1 common egg group / having opposite genders. How compatible they are depends on four things, things you don't have any control over for your individual pokémon: parents having different original owners / being same species / having a discovered and at least 1 common egg group / having opposite genders. If two compatible pokémon are kept in the daycare, there is a chance they'll produce an egg as you catch pokémon. Higher the compatibility, higher the chance.

Eggs will produce offspring that may inherit IVs, moves, egg moves, etc. from the parents. The species of the offspring is always the first in the mother's or non-Ditto parent's evolution line, with a couple exceptions.
