The world will be ever expanding so there will always be room for a new empire

Yes but In close proximity there would never be competition other than economic trade
So if someone settled in a very good location with lots of resources they would never get contested and have more of an advantage over another empire who settled in a less resource generated area giving the person with resources more power over them in trade and in the economy
I was discussing on a suggestion a few days ago about waves of monsters attacking an empire
Maybe 1 wave per month, attacking 1 village or town/city per wave
Larger towns and cities would see substantially more monsters attacking it
As an empire got larger, it would have to find better ways to protect itself or potentially lose ground to the monsters
I think having an upkeep system would also be a good incentive to be active or constantly gather resources
I think the monster waves should only happen if a certain amount of people are online and they should be random when they happen as long as there is enough people online constantly making empires adapt
I think being able to prepare for it wouldn’t be fair
Essentially making the rich get richer
I like this as well
when we discussed it the other day, we agreed on the same thing
so, every town would be at risk, but any town could be randomly selected... they would then find a town crier, or a message somewhere telling them a hoard of monsters has been spotted near the village... they would have a week to prepare and then the wave would arrive
but the attack would pause if [X]% wasn't online
imagine being the poor sod who logged into a village on his day off from school or work, only to find he is only person in the village and there's a hoard fit for 100 players banging at the gate 👀 lol
the warning would let roleplay empires allocate troops to help the village
