Ok, so my thoughts around the time gate.
Bitcraft is going to be an incredibly social game, it's not supposed to be a game that you can pick up and be done with after a couple of days of hard grinding unlike most PC exclusive mmorpgs.
Since bitcraft is going to be playable on mobile it stands to reason that it is first and foremost a mobile game and not a PC game and mobile games are known to have speedups on everything that can be paid for with real money or premium currency, that is not a jab at mobile games that is the reality of the state of mobile games nowadays, I've read your monetization blog post, but it doesn't really touch to much on that subject, I'm afraid bitcraft will become a cash grab, and sure there will be people who will give reasons why that is to be expected or how it isn't a big deal, but since it is a mobile game I'm guessing you will plan to target mostly south America and India, promoting Bitcraft as a mobile game there, if there is going to be premium currency or speedups it will only harm those communities since they don't have the wealth the west has and would just create more of a division in the game between these communities.
If thats the route you plan to take with bitcraft then I'm sure you got some good reasons like "it's not p2w" or "it's not to the detriment to players", but such a system would only punish solo players for not cooperating with other people, they would have to choose between paying to actually get some stuff done or be forced into a community. I'm writing the other part since it might be deleted
Some testers have approached me and spoken about the state of the game, that's no secret, in their opinion the game is going in that direction after witnessing the time gate, it's not fun, it forces players to completely halt their progress, being forced to stop halts the momentum of the game completely and leaves players twiddling their thumbs with nothing to do
@oak obsidian that's my reasoning for the
Hey @rich meadow! Thanks for breaking it down. Yeah I understand your concern, but it's definitely not a mobile game first. It is currently PC first and we're going to bring it to mobile. We're doing that because a lot of people prefer playing on mobile, particularly with a game that is something you play very long-term. OSRS on mobile has been very successful for example. The mobile market is also quite large and we'd like to make sure we do everything to try to make the game successful, so that includes trying to reach a large player base.
As I mentioned in #bitcraft-chat we're not going to have speedups for the time-gating, since it kind of defeats the point of the time-gating of some of the more hard-core elements of the game in the first place. We basically just want there to be a minimum time that you have to invest to create certain high level tech. It is supposed to be designed so that players don't have to completely halt their progress and they can go on and work on other things, or work on increasing their throughput of production, so they don't have to wait as long. If the time-gating isn't working as designed, we will remove it.
The game is currently in Pre-Alpha, in order to do our job correctly, we need to experiment with different concepts that we think are founded in good game design. While we're not always right, I certainly think we're heading in the right direction, whatever you have heard about the current state of the game is not especially representative of where it will end up.
But by making a game playable on mobile you will have to limit the game, PC games can't be played on mobile, mobile games can be played on PC, by making it playable on mobile the game will be limited by the capacity of mobiles, not the other way around
Idk, I don't think OSRS was limited on mobile
While I prefer playing on PC, a lot of people just don't have them
That's because it's a very old game, a better example would be black desert online on mobile, but that game was also severely limited to be playable on a mobile device, so much so that they didn't allow cross platform gameplay, in the end it became a fraction of black desert online
