Part of the reason players abused the sailing leveling is because there is nothing interesting or dangerous about sailing the high seas. My proposal that would (partially) solve this problem is to make sea passage dangerous and dynamic - and simultaneously enrich the gameplay for sailors.
Problems right now:
- Players abused the "gain xp as you sail" component
- The Sea is somewhat boring - slightly less so if you are a fishermen main
My Ideas for Solutions:
- Add interesting mobs that must be either avoided or hunted to open up sea routes between cities. Death Eels, malfunctioned ancient tech, a kraken here and there, so on. The depth or other variables like sea currents could influence where certain mobs spawn or travel to.
- Maybe add some kind of floating building that deters mobs, similar to torches and campfires.
- Add some sea monster specific weapons (harpoon, cannon?)
- Add sea currents & wind currents to the high seas. Your boat moves faster/slower depending on the direction of the current
- Add random thunderstorms that scatter inventory and do damage to people sailing in them.
Recap
This would make sailing less of a boring endeavor to get from point A to point B and more of an exciting game experience. Plus, imagine if a hunting guild gathered to take down a kraken or something? That'd be dope.
I feel like just adding these things, or something similar to the seas in bitcraft would open up some really interesting gameplay and additional ideas as well. And it could partially solve people writing scripts to gain xp. I miss sailing xp.
