Good evening. I love the idea of this game. That's what I like very much. I will definitely buy the game. I only have one doubt and a serious concern. How well are the creators prepared to fight bots? I can imagine that bots will quickly destroy the game economy. I don't expect an answer that will give ways to fight them. Only if it is thought out and ready to be fought.

Has been mentioned that they will ban any scripted bots
any they detect*
I share the concerns tbh. An open source free to play game is a paradise for botters.
that's what I'm afraid of. Bot creators expect some to get banned. They are almost immune to this by creating a ton of new ones. In the end, they still come out ahead.
Bot detection is always a game of cat & mouse. Honestly the open source part doesn't mean a whole lot since the game was unity anyway. (All unity games are basically open source anywho with how easy they are to reverse)
The devs will keep updating their bot detection algo's and use statistical analysis to determine who's botting and who's not. And the botters will continue to keep updating their bots to evade detection. It's the way of the world!
The cool part is that every item earned, created, traded as well as all actions a player takes is recorded in spacetimedb. This will allow them to do some crazy stuff w/ heuristics to determine what "human gameplay" looks like and what isn't. Only time will tell!

If closed source would mean good security many online games wouldn't have that nightmare situation with bots and cheaters. The reality clearly shows that security through obscurity doesn't give much when it comes to online games. On the contrary, open source may potentially lead to better security. Of course, it would be naive to think that a a bunch of random people will appear to fix all bugs and security issues instead of the developers, but at least some bugs can be investigated and some bugs can be fixed by people outside of the developers team, giving the devs more time to work on what has higher priority, including security issues. There are no guarantees, it depends on us all whether such development model will succeed and evolve, but making negative assumptions on consequences of open sourcing the game is at least unreasonable, considering that BitCraft will be the second commercial open source MMORPG in history.
