I met a cool guy by a fishing pond, but wasn't able to add him as a friend to be able to message privately or do anything with. Was forced to do it on discord, that felt kinda strange considering the game is designed to be social. There definitely needs to be a friend system for early access so i can have a list of cool dudes and ladies i met along the way that i can hit up with private message!

Some more technical info as to why there isn't a friend list or direct message system yet:
With the way the backend database system (SpacetimeDB) used to work, there was no way to make any chat messages private. They've officially added row level security which will make it possible. This is one of the first public builds on the newer system, so they'll finally be able to work on that soon.
I can't guarantee an estimated time, but it is something that is wanted.
