In all my watching of Apex streams, whenever a player who had a shield is eliminated, there seems to be no clear pattern to what condition the shield is in when it's picked up from the deathbox. Sometimes it's full, sometimes it's depleted, and sometimes it's anywhere in between. Is this randomly determined, or is it dependent on certain factors?

If you see a depleted shield in the box, that means someone already swapped armor from the deathbox
