Ideas for a new lighthouse location that separates it from the Mermaid Coast Pier

#

The building still maintains the isometric layout, but you view it from the rear, facing the ocean.
Key features of the lighthouse:

  • The pyre, a 3x3 bowl of fire that sits at the window. At night time, the fire is lit, providing automatic lighting to the room. The pyre might be bought from Yori's
  • Floor grid includes the entire interior of the lighthouse room, as well as the grey balcony around the outside
  • Wall grid includes the left interior wall, and the right exterior wall below the balcony.
  • There is a small roofed chimney that allows smoke from the pyre to exit the room.
  • Being able to see the sky in this area means the background would be constantly changing, particularly the movement of the sun and moon. The moon being visible would also be a good indicator for Gloamroot bonuses
  • The lower balcony which leads to the stairs is for both Tsuki and other NPCs to stand on, in the case that the entire floor area is covered in furniture.

New NPC idea: Cielo the Pelican

The lighthouse keeper, who hangs around the Pier during the day, takes naps around lunchtime, briefly visits Ratthew's bar in the afternoons and watches over the pyre at night. As a Peruvian Pelican, he is actually kinda nocturnal, and will often point out that fact since he assumes most people wouldn't know.
His favourite pasttime is of course fishing, and he will cast his rod at the pier in the morning, sometimes with Yori around.

Story to unlock the decoration area:

After decorating the pier, Cielo will comment on whether this counts as littering, prompting you to explain that you received permission from Benny to decorate the area. He will object to it, saying all the furniture will obstruct the pier.

Later on, a newspaper will announce that Ratthew's bar is having a shortage of alcohol. Ratthew tells you to run over to the town hall and find out what is going on. Upon speaking to Benny, you find out that a shipment is late because it couldn't make port. Apparently it got lost at night because the lighthouse pyre was not lit.

You confront Cielo about the unlit pyre, and he explains that it requires fuel, which he has run out of. He gives you access to the lighthouse room, where he shows you the empty pyre, saying he can't activate it until he finds more fuel to light it up.

You rush over to Dawn, who is able to provide you with firewood from her stash as long as you have already decorated the front of her shack. If you haven't unlocked her front lawn yet, this dialogue won't be available yet.

Bringing the firewood to the lighthouse pier, you light it up. You then head over to Ratthew, who gifts you a bottle of wine from the shipment as thanks for helping out. Giving the bottle to Cielo, he is very grateful and decides that your decorations aren't that bad. He gives you full permission to decorate the interior and exterior of the lighthouse room.

Other possible features

  • Tapping the doorway at the pier can lead directly to the lighthouse rather than going through the map app. The same can be done for the door at the lighthouse leading back to the pier
  • As a fishing veteran, Cielo might tell you via conversation where the fish are, and whether some areas have been depleted. Particularly on days when a rare fish is announced in the newspaper, he will point where to fish for it
  • You could possibly sell fish to Cielo, and he will give rates that are better than Yori, but not as rewarding as bounties.
  • It may be possible to remove and sell the existing pyre, but doing so will also remove the lighthouse's only source of light, so replacement lights will be needed. At least one light source is needed for the lighthouse to work again.

Updating the map

Currently tapping the lighthouse in the map leads to the pier. This should be updated so that the pier and lighthouse are separate places.

The lighthouse will still be visible on the map upon unlocking the Pier, but you won't be able to access it until you unlock dialogue from the NPC

Displaying time and weather

As seen in the picture, the sky is visible on this map. This would mean several things:

  • The position of the sun would roughly match the time of day, possibly changing per hour. Sunsets would be over the ocean horizon
  • At night the moon is visible, rising and setting like the sun. The shape of the moon indicates the bonus given to Gloamroot
  • During rainy weather, the sky is covered in grey clouds, and the sun/moon is not visible. During storms, the clouds are even darker, and lightning animations may appear to hit the lighthouse (since it is the tallest building in the village and attracts lightning the most)
  • Seasons also exist, so the landscape becomes snowy during winter etc.

i think this is a pretty neat idea, especially given all the coastal themed decorations.

Concept sketch of lighthouse. Note the roof is partly removed to be able to see inside. Also the lack of the pyre, which will be added in later as a furniture piece.

Wow, you have put a lot of thought into this, that’s really nice! As I was reading, and before seeing who Cielo was, I remembered the bear that hangs at the pier in Tsuki Adventure. He is the one who gives you good luck at fishing if you watch an ad. Maybe he could make an appearance, too?
