Minecraft servers can be frustrating because free ones like Aternos are often limited, especially when it comes to adding mods—they're too heavy. Lunar hosts the server on our own PC, allowing us to add mods if we have a good setup. The problem is that if I'm hosting, my friend has to wait for me to be online, and he can't play alone.

I had an idea: what if both of us could host the server at the same time? Imagine my friend and I want to play survival. I host the server, but if I leave, he should be able to take over. The idea is that I send him the world files so he can continue hosting. And if he leaves, he could upload the files to a cloud drive so I can retrieve them and keep playing.

Would it be possible to automate this? Here are some potential ways to do it:

  1. Cloud Storage Synchronization – Using a service like Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox to sync the server files. Every time one of us plays, the world gets updated in the cloud, and the other player can automatically get the latest version when they join.

  2. Direct Sync Software – Using a tool like Syncthing to sync the world files directly between our PCs without needing a cloud service.

  3. Automated File Transfer – A script could be set up to automatically send the world files to the other player when the host quits, so the next player can immediately take over.

  4. Local Hosting with Dynamic Handoff – A system where the server dynamically switches hosts based on who is online, with automatic file synchronization ensuring that the latest world data is always available.

Would something like this be possible to fully automate? This could make Lunar even better for multiplayer!"*
