LORE
Leader of the Silverhearts. Sten was born into a bloodline of blacksmiths and learned to forge swords as a teenager. Though incredibly young, he was among the first to answer his nation's call to arms when the Order Empire attempted to seize their land and technology. After their initial defense failed, he and his people were driven from their home. A subsequent ambush to reclaim their territory also met with disaster. With the few survivors he could gather, Sten led them to a lush forest bordering a mountain range, where they founded a new colony.
Some years after the First Great War, the Second Great War erupted. During this conflict, Sten was discovered and contracted by Lavish of the Majestic Mafia. In exchange for silver, Sten and his colony agreed to defend Lavish’s mines from the recently settled Borderland Flamefeeders led by Wrathnar in the southwest. The abundance of precious metal rekindled Sten’s passion for smithing, and with the first shipment, he forged the magnificent silver greatswords he wields to this day. It was the forging of these powerful and durable weapons that earned Sten and his company the name ‘Silverhearts’. Despite being made of silver, the blades possessed an unnatural resilience and never dulled with use. Their immense weight, however, proved that Sten had reinforced them far beyond necessity, sacrificing convenience for overwhelming power; this is why most soldiers in his company can barely wield a single greatsword. Although the Silverhearts shared a tense and violent border with the Borderland Flamefeeders, open conflict between the two groups never broke out.
Later, while King Zarek was on a quest for treasure across Inamorta, he was incapacitated and forced to reside in Castle Iris. His brother, Zilaros, then set forth to complete the scavenger hunt in his stead. During this time, the Order Empire's advance forced Lavish to halt his mining operations, cutting off the Silverhearts' silver payments. The Silverhearts might have been able to intervene, but they arrived too late, as imperial troops already occupied the mines. It was only when a man named Bacton reached out to Sten and struck a deal that the Silverhearts finally raised their swords directly against the Order Empire.
By joining Bacton’s plot against the crown, Sten and his mercenary company attempted to assassinate Zilaros and massacre Order’s forces as they crossed the Great Bridge to Castle Iris. The assassination attempt failed, but Order suffered heavy casualties in the struggle. Near the end of the war, Sten stood at the forefront of the mercenary coalition to welcome the onslaught of Order Empire troops who dared to challenge him and his comrades.
