Ok chat, this is kinda off-topic since it's not just an idea but rather my thoughts on this whole situation. There will be a lot of text
So from what I've heard devs are short on money so they added this system where you can buy generals for real money. And from what I also heard I got the impression that Devs are taking FOREVER to develop the game, so ig that's kind of their fault there too that they didn't think about monetisation earlier and now added such a paywall.
What can they do now? They will probably do something due to community backlash (or at least I believe so, I'm relatively new here so I don't know how devs handled such problems before) but now they definitely won't just remove the paywall.
The idea that's been suggested a lot already is make generals unlockable through gems. Each general being 2-10k gems will fix the issue of players complaining about the game being p2w but now a lot less will buy generals with real money. So what do we do now?
Ads, cosmetics for real money and maybe like a subscription thing. So ads are pretty obvious, but please don't just slap ads in players face when they won the match, make them optional for bonuses, this simple system has been working forever in a lot of games. Cosmetics, just a premium tower skin or a whole premium skin pack, maybe customisable main menu? Seriously, this is so obvious why the Devs chose what we have now. Subscription? Kinda like battle pass bonuses (yk when you buy a battle pass in some games you also get like xp boosters). 2x multiplier on gems from everything for example so you can grind gems to buy the generals faster.
There are just so many ways to monetize the game yet they chose to lock already existing content and the whole focus of last updates was primarily new generals, but now people can't even play those so the update will pretty much add nothing for players who don't get the new general, it limits deck building which is pretty much the main focus of the game
