Hello,
I have a Core i5-10210U with integrated UHD 620. By no means a gaming beast, but it can handle many games at Low settings. It is also supposed to support DX12.
When I downloaded a game on Steam, I tried playing it and received this error:
DirectX 12 is not supported on your CPU. try running without -dx12 or -d3d12. So, I tried adding -dx11, but the game does not support dx11.
On the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy on Epic Games plays great without issues at 720p Low with FSR. that game also requires DX12, however. Could this be a Steam issue, or is my GPU incompatible with certain DX12 games?
#GPU does not support DX12?

Please help with this as I want to evaluate whether this laptop can fully support DirectX
yeah, all are installed (dx 9-11, 12 came via windows update i think)
acc to this, dx12 support exists
@south citrus Which driver version have you installed?
I'll look for the latest driver
I update the drivers every month... Also, the drivers are legacy now, so they won't provide feature updates
Which game are you having trouble with?
It might need some DX12 level that isn't supported 😢
Ah that would suck but I doubt the igpu would run the game well enough anyway, my i5 10310u at 40 watts barely gets by
Depending on the laptop it might be possible to add an egpu
Because that cpu has pretty decent cores
I think like 4 GHz all core, it's a bit less than half an i7 10700 minus the cache and extra memory speed
i am playtesting it, so cannot disclose :/
i was thinking about that... I have a thunderbolt 3 port
Hogwarts Legacy still running great 🙂
dxdiag shows DX 12 FL 12_1
anyways, i may have to add an egpu... Would a 3050 be good enough?
or, i could try with my arc a770
Do you already have the card? If you have to buy anything too expensive, you might want to get a new laptop.
Yeah don't spend more than $200, not worth it
And doesn't arc hate not having rebar and PCIe 4.0
Why do you have a GPU but no PC lol
i do have a pc... but i need to upgrade it
Considering buying a cheap enclosure for now?
You won't find a cheap thunderbolt enclosure and don't try getting the cheapest garbage one possible, having reliability issues with egpus is pain
