#GPU(B580) power draw or another bad PSU?

TLDR; When I stress the GPU the system loses power.

Hello all B580 users. Has anyone else had issues with stress titles crashing with a power loss or over current protection?

Story: (an abridged version)
since sept I have had issues. first vrm whine(like a capacitor), which killed my Mobo and GPU, I took this time to upgrade to Intel and got a B580 in late November. Jan-Mar I had various issues which deemed my mobo as faulty. starting with game freezes and crashes, then BSOD's. everything was mostly stable when I replaced my mobo till early feb when games started outright killing my PC. full over current protection faults that required a full PSU reset. I sent it to EVGA and they said it tested fine, but warrantied it anyway. HWinfo and windows event viewer disagree., showing a drop in power then a cut off not just a cut off as you would expect if say the power went out.

Now a month after getting the computer back and up it seems to be acting up again. IDK if its drivers, this behavior was present on the first 4 drivers. IDK if its GPU, drawing too much similar to the Nvidia Draw issues. or something else again. Or is it S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 which seems to be the catalyst that started this the first time and I recently started it up again thinking 1.4 was more stable(it kind of is, maybe, idk, its so broken).

PSU is an 850w EVGA, was purchased a year ago, to replace my Aging ST750f from 2008. The troubleshooting I did in late march was a direct PSU swap back to my old 750, which is now whining, with my system running stable for a week before submitting my final analysis to EVGA support.

when I upgraded to B580 and I start doing benchmarks (superposition), my pc would just crash black screen. I was using 500W white Cooler master PSU at that time. So a brand new gpu right out of the box cant be the problem. I purchased a 600W bronze gigabyte PSU which resolved all my problems and 4 months later my B580 is doing well.

Best bet is try using another PSU or Mobo. If you have some friends with their own PC, you can ask for favor if they can try the GPU on their rig just to check if the GPU is really working fine.

Have had, twice now. I dont think I have had a lemon PSU twice or a Lemon Mobo twice. having faulty parts replaced by under warranty by faulty parts is frustrating. Especially when you are gaslit by warranty support. I dont have the tools to test them without a doubt, but in replacing parts, like the 3 weeks testing w/ my old 750w w/o issue, is not enough for them when the unit tests "fine" with their unit tester and test bench. I am fortunate I have extended retail warranty and warranty with EVGA.

@molten magnet Are you using new PCIe power cables?

I've had similar issues with used cables not quite making a good connection.

Voltage drops under load causing a brown out detection and reset.

Something like that might be your issue.

Someone in Reddit some day ago said he was getting issues when stresstesting both CPU and B580 at same time, is this what you are also doing? Stressing all power rails I mean?

I think EVGA is not a bad PSU brand but maybe you buy the cheap models? Should never do that, but I know many ppls think you can cheap out on PSU although if PSU fails and its a bad one, your entire PC might follow to death.

Its mainly Stressed with Games. The PSU is a Supernova P5 Platnium 850w. By all counts I shouldn't losing power on a system that works fine with a 15yro Silverstone 750w. I did, when trying to isolate the issues months ago, Run cinebench and prime95 with no issues. Currently stalker2 and halo infinite have crashed. I havent been able to get Metro exodus(although its running poorly) or RE3/4 to crash yet again either.
