I'm looking at the prices right now, i want to make clear I'm not 100% on buying anything right now, but the opinions i get here will definitely influence that. i found a triple fan rtx 4070 (non super non ti) for $520 and a reference 6950xt for $550, i would like peoples opinions on which are better/ another good option with similar fps inbetween $500-$550ish range
#6950xt or 4070?

6950XT by a LOT
4070 = 3080
Ik
6950XT = 3090
I was watching benchmarks and it was a difference l, I was leaning towards amd, but I want multiple opinions
And also no av1, nvenc, or dlss
Idrc about Ray tracing tho
What video?
Idk, I'm walking home rn, I can get it in like 30 ish minutes
There was definitely a difference but not TOOO much
I was trying to consider everything and not just pure restoration
Ohhh there’s like a 30-50 FPS difference in some games
Ahh
I didn't get very far into it till I had to leave
Some games no the difference isn’t much but some it’s very much there
Also no 12vhp connector
I forgot about that yeah, I like the 16 gigs
The 6950XT is just a better buy honestly for just a gamer
Figured, I've never used an AMD card tho. What's their encoder like?
What do you use the encoder for?
I know it's not as good as nvenc but like how much worse
Idk, I don't know but probably just recording and streaming
If I ever wanted too in the future
Also I saw a few comments about the reference version (the one I found at $550) gets REALLY hot, is that a QC problem or is that normal?
Ight thanks
I’m happy with my 4070 FE, but I prefer the Nvidia software stack over AMD and will gladly sacrifice a little performance for it.
Nah
Not that hot
Some ppl said in reviews on microcenter saying it got to like 110c
Is amd's encoder THAT bad?
Everything Ive found so far online (which unfortunately isn't much) is just to jack up the bit rate a bit and you should be pretty good, am I wrong? (Of course it's not gonna be EXACTLY the same but at least comparable... Right?)
7900GRE I've heard AV1 is decent
Well you could get a 6950XT and an A310 just for the encoder, there’s people that do that
Tis quite good, NVENC still wins but
It’s good
Yeah, as I don't currently record or anything that's probably the best course for me
Probably
7900GRE!!!
$540ish on Newegg
6950XT is 7900XT level iirc
Lol it isnt
7900GRE is about 4070 super level
Its pretty much the 6950XT but lower tdp and AV1 plus newer
Oh
So, I'm not familiar with the gre cards (lookin at em rn online) but from my understanding, it's just like a 7800 xtx?
Does it have all the same features or is some of it cut down somewhere?
(I do like the updated and extra display port. I have no use for a USBC display out)
What would you say is better, 7000 series encoder? Or 3000 series nvenc?
(also av1 is a thing with the 7900)
I'ma be honest, on amd's spec sheets their almost identical
I'd still go for the 7900 kuz newer and better features for same price
Better
GRE stands for golden rabbit edition
Ik
But that's still around 6950xt perf right?
Yes
