I dont know what had happened. I’m having some new and super annoying issues; my pc is randomly restarting. It started after a game session on hogwarts, and it’s never happened before. It seems like every 3-5 mins it just automatically restarts.
My computer seems to run fine if a steam game is loaded, but as soon as I close the game( I’ve tried god of war, and hogwarts) it randomly restarts.
Turned off auto-restart, and did sys restore to before my last updates. System is i5 13600k z690 asrock intel arc a770, 32gb 3200 ram. Still happening, and I’m losing my mind. Any help or troubleshooting advice is highly welcomed! Please help!

Does it restart if you don't even start a game in the first place?
Yes. Only stays on if I load into a game before it restarts.
Hmm. Do you know how to get into safe mode? Wondering if this is a program/driver or windows itself/hardware
I've never seen this before so it's gonna be a bit of searching
Hold shift while hitting restart on the start menu? I know right, I’m totally stumped.
In windows defender, it looks like my local security authority is off and I can’t change it.
Yeah
Oh that's off-putting
Did you already try sfc and dism?
To fix that issue
I’m sry I’m a newb, no I haven’t, not rly familiar
I see, on it
That searches and fixes your windows install for corrupted/missing files or similar
For context ^
Might want to keep a game open in the background by the way
It takes a few minutes
says I must be administrator, I am?
I’ve got one open, but it wouldn’t let me scan
Sfc/ scannow
What's the error
How am I not administrator
You must be admin runnin a console session in order to use the arc utility
Arc?
Search for command prompt in windows, and instead of open click open as administrator
Got it
Scanning now! Thanks for your patience
Venison jerky ftw btw:)
Maybe even the restarts
U gotta! I live way up north, kinda a right of passage.. so it’s done.
Fair
Windows resource protection, found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS. Log file located at blah blah blah.
So should I restart?
Oh good, it did something
Yeah restart and see if defender works
Hopefully, maybe even so, it fixes the random restarts
Just shut down, then will reboot.
It’s a newer build and I’ve had no issues prior, I rly appreciate your help!
So far so good, usually took like 3-5 mins before restarting
Holding breath! Lol
Oh nooo it did it again!!
Was working fine so I decided to try to open discord as admin, and it restarted again!
Running scan again, without a game to keep it on.
Anytime! Also ughh restart issue not gone
Does defender turn on at least?
Got to the end of the scan and it restarted again!! I’m losing it man
That's unfortunate D:
I’m gonna turn a game on, will check defender
Might have to try the shift restart thing in a bit to see if we can narrow down the cause
Sounds good
Under core isolation, my lsa protection is off, and I can’t change it.
Hold shift and click restart?
Weird
Yea
I’m back in the troubleshooting menus
What do I do from here?
Uninstall the latest quality and feature updates
What options are there again?
I forget
I can reset the pc,
Startup repair, start up settings, command, prompt, uninstall, updates, UEFI, firmware settings, system, restore
I wouldn't tbh, I'd rather a proper reinstall if we need to
Anyway startup settings
I found a link, maybe a common issue with the LSA, check it out, https://www.windowslatest.com/2023/03/18/windows-11-incorrectly-warns-local-security-authority-protection-is-off/
Windows Latest
Some users have reported that the Windows Security app is showing “Local Security authority protection is off. Your device may be vulnerable” warnings when the feature is enabled. This bug is in Windows Defender (KB5007651), a mandatory security update shipped alongside Windows 11’s March 2023 Update. Local Security Authority protection is a fea...
Okay that's good
If the warning doesn't bother you id just wait for a fix, it's on and working either way
@ashen goblet just asking what PSU you using?
Deep cool 750w 80+gold
I was wondering if it could be that aswell..
I fixed the LSA issue, fingers crossed that did it
Damnit, still shut off!!!
Omg this is maddening.
Could be the gpu drivers, I dont know
Tried everything except resetting windows and replacing psu. I updated bios, ddu my gpu drivers, have yet to reinstall. But I set my bios to default, after update.. still happening. I’m almost certain it’s my psu.. I’m lil perplexed
We could test the PSU with hwinfo logging
Thing is I won't be home till a few hours so I can't check the log output until then
No problem, I’d be down to try that out! I’ve been looking over that link and there are a couple other things I can try, but it can be difficult do do anything as it may restart at any time.
Been looking over this.. https://softwarekeep.com/help-center/computer-randomly-restarting

I see
How do I test the psu with hwinfo or anything else
Download a stress test like prime95 and/or furmark, start logging in hwinfo sensors only mode, start the stresses, wait till restart
The log basically tells you if anything happened to cause the restart, since it tells you the activity in the PSU rails, clock speeds, power draw, etc
Right on!! I’ll run that tmr nite after work. Hit a wall with it tnt, taking a mental health break 😉
Which test do you recommend?
Ight, and take care!
Any known test should work but stuff like cinebench, prime95, etc for CPU work; furmark, ..what other GPU stresses are there?
If your PC doesn't restart in those stresses, close the stresses and it prolly will restart then
Running prime95 right now, and have hwinfo up in sensor mode, this is what it’s sayin, hasn’t restarted yet.
Everything else in hwinfo looks good but the cpu
As soon as I stopped the test for prime95, it restarted again.
Got warnings for distributed com 10001, 10016, any ideas?
I got an event in event viewer that was WHEA LOG 18, and upon further inspection it says that there was a fatal error with the cpu. So should I send it in for rma?
Still happening. Tried chkdsk, dism /online/ cleanup-image /restorehealth, and Sfc scannow. . Event viewer say’s distributed com 10001, 10005, 10006 and 10016 respectively, also WHEA logger 1 & 18. I’m also getting kernel power-41,
WHEA LOG 18 tells me that a fatal hardware error has occurred reported by a component; processor core
error source; machine check exemption error tape; cash hierarchy error / and I found this on the issue; ‘Machine Check Exception cache hierarchy error – The error is encountered due to overclocking or malfunctioning hardware. Check for both these aspects.’
And since I’ve never overclocked, it has to be hardware.
I tried each ram stick one at a time, it’s not the memory, also disconnected the gpu and still occurred, so not the gpu either. I’m guessing it is the cpu or psu. But kind of at a loss of how to diagnose without replacement parts. Will likely reach out to IT.

This is my first build, only a few months old. No issues prior.
I’m so lost. Super frustrated. Please help
Feels like a psu issue.. so I’m going to get a new one, though I could use recommendations for a replacement for this build. Thanks! Also, my boss recommended I try the software ‘combofix’ so I’ll try that aswell.
Wondering if my cpu isn’t operating properly.
my 13600k also aoverheats with a 240 aio
but im on a 240mm
it seems like the cpu is overheating
try repasting the cpu
also check if youve removed the plastic from the cooler's copper
WHEA LOG 18 tells me that a fatal hardware error has occurred reported by a component; processor core
just read your pc part picker
this is an indication of a problem with the cpu, more than likely the overheating
i can only assume you forgot the plastic peel on the cooler
or the thermal paste
The plastic is definitely off, I wonder if it could be my cooler.
Also I’ve been reading that disabling c state may resolve this, but i need to know more about that. It has to do with the optimization curve I read. Still learning.
H150i works fine on signal rgb and keeps cpu cool, the only time I’ve gotten any temps above 75ish was during stress test. And that did not kick it off. Only low load seems to.
Disabling C states in bios seems to have corrected this. I wonder if the chip needs rma
my first guess is PSU issue. somehow itll run fine under load (while hot) but under no load as it gets colder maybe some component/solder joint is failing?
could be
Your CPU temps show it’s overheating a bit
Make sure the cooler and fans are installed correctly and running right
You should buy the Thermalright 1700 anti-bending bracket. You definitely need a better cooler! Which cooler do you currently have? In this video, he mentioned an anti-bending bracket from another brand, but with the same design. For a 13600k, you need a really powerful air cooler or at least a 280 water cooler. Otherwise, you'll always have problems. And be sure to use Arctic MX-4 thermal paste. Or you could just get the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 280 water cooler, which already includes the anti-bending bracket and provides the best cooling.

i'm having the same problem too . i've never faced this problem before. This is so annoying.
everything runs fine but when i try to load a game then my pc turns off and automatically restarts .
temperature remains under 75 degrees under full load for both cpu and gpu
i'm using corsair cv650 80 PLUS bronze rated
You cannot use a Bronze certified power supply. The voltages will remain unstable otherwise. Get at least a Gold certified power supply. Ideally, an ATX 3.0
I also had an older Gold certified power supply from Corsair and sometimes experienced random restarts. ATX 3.0 has almost become a must. No problems so far with it.
