#PC continues to randomly freeze

I have had my Arc A770 for a couple weeks now and I've been having nothing but issues since I put the card in. I'm going to list my specs and all the issues I've been having. If you have any relevant information please share it with me! I have done a complete wipe of all both of my SSD's and put a fresh boot of windows on the system. After the complete wipe I reinstalled my drivers. I have filed down the issue to being an issue with the graphics card unless one of my other components are having an issue. They're all new parts though. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask

Main Issue: Pc randomly freezes. It does not crash, the display stays on, the RGB stops flowing but the fans continue to spin, the computer does not respond to ctrl alt delete or other commands, only solution is to hold down power button and force shut down. The only critical error in event viewer is "Kernel-Power 41"
Other issues: Arc a770 appears to idle at 48C, does not show a lower temperature even at startup. All other components run at least 10c cooler on idle
Arc does not identify second monitor unless you unplug it and plug it back in or turn the monitor off an on. Both monitors use display port.

What kind of power supply do you have?

fringe aspen
# pastel summit yes

I appear to be running 0902
Though I am very wary of updating the bios though. I did not have good luck with that on my last board....

i have seen faulty PSU's causing that freeze issue you are mentioning tho, specifically at idle so Tuanies might be pointing in the right direction there.

by any chance do you have another PSU you could test?

fringe aspen
#

I unfortunately do not. I actually have gone down that rabbit hole though I do not believe its the psu

I’d try a bios flash first. If it supports recovery, have that file ready too

☝️

Could someone walk through that with me a bit? I'm very nervous about it. I have already lost one mobo to it

it should be a pretty straightforward process tbh, unless you got a power failure at the time you are doing it there should be no way to "break" it.

#

check chapter 3

#

tho you should have the physical manual in the MB box.

fringe aspen
#

Thank you. I'm gunna try this and i'll lyk how it goes

pastel summit
#

ok, hope all goes fine, also after the whole procedure is done the bios will go back to default so do check if CSM is enabled again, and dont forget to enable XMP for memory and Resize BAR for best experience with the A770

Also does the drive need to be formatted a certain way? I know for the nvme it mattered if it was mbr or gpt

pastel summit
#

you should unzip it to the flash drive yes.

also iirc Asus also has the option of accessing the internet and downloading the bios right at the moment, but i do prefer to use the "manual" flash drive way

#

i usually use old USB flash drives, and those are using FAT32 almost all the time.

fringe aspen
#

I also have a new 850 watt power supply as well

#

CSM should be disabled

what are you usually doing when it freezes?

fringe aspen
#

Anything from watching a YouTube video, typing a message in discord, to just sitting listening to Spotify. I have also crashed in games

Try setting the PCIe setting for the x16 slot to Gen3 to see if that fixes anything

Run DDU then reinstall your driver.

All graphics drivers

#

Any old ones and anythings possobly corrupt from all the crashing.

fringe aspen
#

Well I don’t think there’d be much to uninstall from when I did the wipe and reinstall, there hasn’t been another brand graphics card plugged in for drivers to get installed. I did a complete wipe of the pc twice now

so when you say wipe. Are you delleting the partitions and reinstalling windows ?
