problem is mounting, cooling and list goes on..

or just make the thing one GIANT die lol

What’d be cool: an inner core of 3D V cache and the tiles on the outside

#

But cooling, lots of materials, complicated packaging, still have to stick it on a substrate and IHS

#

It’s novel

#

What if it was like a normal CPU but instead of basically 2d it's like what's above

#

With connectors on the bottom like a normal one

#

And the cooling solution suggested by JNT

#

And just like 100 cores on the inside

#

I'ma draw a few rough drawings

But then you become subject to the square-cube law. As volume increases x^3, you only increase surface area by x^2. You may get more sides to cool it on but you’ll need a lot of dead volume because to meet the same cooling levels

(im bad at drawing so brace urselvs)

I’m ready as spaghetti

#

so thats the cpu

#

it goes on the mobo like a normal one

#

(its really hard for me to draw 3d in 2d)

#

and then

#

there is a cooler

#

that i will draw soon

#

that slides over the 5 sided IHS

#

with thermal paste

#

i found the brush tool so this next one's is finna be better

#

VERY rough drawing

#

that would solve intels heat problem lol

#

but why waste that huge space

#

if threadripper can fit 64 cores in a 2D platform then think about what a 3D platform could do

#

yeah i thought they could do 128 but wasnt 100% sure so i was safe and said 64

#

thats cuz its from a 2D side angle i will show the idea for the bottom cooler in a sec

#

well for my idea it basically has 5 sides cuz one goes into the mobo

#

and thats kinda needed

#

working on a diff angle cooler look

I love the illustrations here haha

#

man i spent so much time making it look "nice"

#

i suck at drawing 3d

#

basically its a cube with a hole in the bottom that slots over all the exposed sides

#

and in the CPU it has a similar thing on it but as the IHS

Whoa, chill, guys.

#

It's fine if you don't like each other's ideas. It costs $0 to not say anything if you don't think it's helpful.

zealous aurora
#

you just said one thing about it and then went on with the conversation lol

#

you just mentioned it

#

this is a place to really theorize about how one would be made and work

#

The most alarming issue with this idea to me, is heat

#

Silicon doesnt conduct heat very well, so adding layers and such makes the thermal output higher

#

Also adding more cores in the extra layers, will add heat

zealous aurora
#

maybe some hybrid or smthn

#

kinda like an AIO

#

like the CPU manufacturer makes the cpu with water cooling holes inside it or some other cooling solution and then the cooler manufacturers make somthing that connects to that
