The reason I think it wasn't our Drifter is because he had somatic implants which the Drifter didn't have in the New War (I think, mine didn't and he didn't seem able to equip them if I remember correctly) and we also have the somatic implants because of our void powers but the Drifter doesn't gain void powers until later in the New War, I don't see why he would have somatic implants if he had no void power
