From what I knew about transference bolts is it's what actually allowed us tenno to control things that had them fitted to them. And that umbra had a special one installed that would transfer his memory into a new body if his old one was destroyed forever tormenting him

I do theorize, and I can’t emphasize enough that it’s just a theory that every frame we make is installed with a bolt, it’s why the Jade, Dante and Kullervo we make are inert
Umbra being an exception due to his special bolt overriding the instructions of the foundry

He was only destroyed once, that wouldn’t make sense really. It also made it easier for Ballas to control him, though him being a Dax may have had a factor too

Again, we don’t really have a lot of concrete info on transference bolts

We don’t even know if they make a frame inert or not, Umbra ofc being a special case
We even have a moment where Arthur is controlled presumably by Albrecht, so does he have a bolt? Is it a special kind? We have no idea cause they really don’t come up much

My guess would be is they just assisted in the transference process, if somatics enabled somehow to have transference then the bolt just makes the process of controlling one a lot smoother
