What makes him powerful is his knowledge in how to work the universe to his advantage, though not the first to do this. Actually that'd be Limbo. The intrigue with him is knowledge of interactions of the universe's forces that allow him to create workarounds and to twist the physical world to his benefit, and I personally find no doubt he'd find a way to apply this to the void as well.
