I personally love using crit mods because the downside is usually a fire rate decrease, and that is counteracted with shred and the pistol equivalent

These mods are goated for just about any weapon. Not all of them want the fire rate drop, but more often than not, you are gonna love this

Guys how do you make Hydroid survive?

I have two ways

lean into his weirdly high base shields for shield tanking and use brief respite/some augur mods and/or aegis for restoration

I also have pillage on that build but that's mostly for the funny because he's a pirate so he likes to plunder and pillage

the other one is a persistence one that relies on arcane blessing, some health archon shards, and rousing plunder for healing

that one has nourish subsumed because plunder already messes up status weighting and is a really expensive ability to cast often

keeping tempest barrage up staggers most enemies almost constantly as well so his tentacles aren't even the best CC in his kit so that's the subsume slot normally

the persistence build is a bit volatile but I really like hydroid so I try make it work
