most weapons are modded very similarly where you want multiplicative modding stuff.

all that means is you want to mod as many different things for weapons ie:

you want base damage, crit chance, crit damage, fire rate/ attack speed, status types and so on

if you combine electric with something else, but that would also require slotting an electric mod

I am pretty new to the game so my opinion isnt the most accurate but I spend quite some time on missions daily

best reccomendation is to just do missions as you have the time for, if you have the time to do 1 or 2 missions a day then so be it, if you have enough time to chew through a whole planet then so be it, but just take it at your own pace. As for trying to catch up to your friend the story missions can give you some very good starting weapons like the nataruk and xoris both being 2 very strong weapons. the major difference though between you and your friend however will likely be mods, mods are something that you kinda just will end up having more and have more be accessable to you as you play the game so while technically you could try your best to rush to get a few mods to make a usable build its not only going to likely not be entirely fun for you but also just not be a great way for understanding some of the basics. While I know you said you dont want to spend platinum or money which is completely fine, see if your buddy has a spare warframe set or 2 that they can either give you or help you get (especially frames like wisp who can buff yourself and your friend). Warframe is really good about not being pay to win in basically any manner as just about everything in the game can be farmed for (and traded) or can only be farmed for and while you can buy stuff with the in game currency there arent any payed only buffs. The game is primarily just a play to win game so the more you play the more you will have and be able to do

eclipse functions as its own multiplier while roar is a faction damage multiplier and will double dip for DoTs

it has 2 modes, damage increase and damage reduction, damage increase is a seperate multiplier similar to how base damage and multishot and seperate multipliers, damage reduction is all multiplicitive with eachother and well, reduces the damage you take

Ima be so fr, ik it's memed to death but on frames that don't have built in status or stagger immunity, it's probably the best QoL mod because it allows you to explode glaivea and shoot explosives / are weapons at your feet and not get staggered
