ESO can only be used to re-rank an item. It can't be used for initial mastery. Leveling gear in SO/ESO requires either using the gear, or staying in affinity range of the squad's nuker(s), which I find to be more annoying than just using Helene/Hydron with flares.

radiant relics provide the maximum chance at the uncommon and rare items in the relic.

Yes, that's where you would see the color.

You can hover over each to get the ducat value.

values are 15, 25, 45, 65, and 100. There are some commons that are 25, and some uncommons that are 65

15/25 is common, 45/65 is uncommon, 100 is rare, if you're colorblind and cannot see the color bar on the bottom of each box.

Usually people are looking for a specific prime part. If they're not, then they either want the most ducat value, or forma/2x forma. If everything is identical, then people may opt for something that is vaulted. If they're all equal and all unvaulted, etiquette is to choose something other than your own relic as the person you choose will receive +5 traces (does not subtract from your own traces), and then they'll typically choose yours, so even in the worst case, everyone can receive +5 traces.

Having the exact same issue, so while I can't say I've got a fix, just know you're not the only one. Apparently the reason for it is that we've got specific flags with the characters that don't have something that connects to a chat, so the best thing to do is wait for a fix.

If it's a very good riven that you may slot without much thought then number of rolls doesn't matter
