yah the power draw seems a little too high, undervolting seems to be realiable way to keep it somewhat cool.

No its pretty solid. Aside from increasing your shield pool, it boosts your shield regen and gives you a 2.5 second shield gate at 1150 shields

It's really just getting the recharge started that's the issue, and you'd just get the cool down for it. If you can consistently get the shield to recharge, i.e. Aegis, then there isn't much need for the longer duration

No not really, most frames benefit from it way more than trying to health tank due to needing much fewer slots to be effective, and the most common way of gaining shields is through the Augur set, which you get from something you already should be doing: spamming abilities.

It is. You can substitute it with the Augur mods on your secondary, though.

There are two Augur mods for secondaries that, when both slotted in, gives you around 140% shields on ability casts.
So essentially it gives you a free aura mod slot
