Scarlet Spear was two 4-person squads glued together. Remember how they removed Trials? They removed them for the same reason - gluing two 4-person squads together doesn't work well.

Steve's hinted at times that they've been reworking the back end to support something like Trials again, but I can't see them doing another event unless they're positive it'll work without requiring unforseen levels of hands-on support.
