Argon Crystals are just a crafting item

When you have any number of them, half will vanish every 24 hour / daily reset cycle

Most Prime Warframes need an Argon Crystal or two for one of their parts

And of course there's base Warframes and weapons that need them too

They're designed as such to encourage you to actively go get them when you need them rather than having an infinite stockpile like every other resource, which personally I find to be interesting

I manually farmed Xiphos and I would just recommend people that have negative patience to just buy it, it's faster farming for junk and get plat vs farming the thing itself. Jugulus spines & Saxum Spittle on release were atrocious too because they weren't mob drop, they were only on bounty rotation back then.
