There's no sequence

Each time you stab you fill a bar, only if you have the correct requiem it'll transition to fight

If you have anti-virus mods on your parazon (can have two at a time) and a potency mod, you can guess the two if you use a finisher during an encounter
I recommend going two mods to speed the process up
