both are a waste of space, but preparation gives you 100% from the start at expense of one slot meanwhile to max out same thing with shards you need 2 slots
it's just an ineffcient use of your yellow shard plain and simple regardless what you look at for comparison

there's also builds which just have spare space and builds where equilibrium is just lowest opportunity cost option to solve energy economy
