#Game pauses out of nowhere, then lags me behind and breaks game chat

Game pauses out of nowhere (with out voiceline or chat message) for a few seconds, then once it unpauses..... it says that im laggin behind then;

i can see the game chat, but not chat on it (hitting enter to type -> type something -> hit enter again but nothing happens)
the "blink" that the unit icons do when a player that owns them is laggin behind appears on my units
i cannot give orders to units, even if the setting to allow commands while paused is active
once i leave the match (since i cant do anything) it has kicked me out of the lobby and logged me out

this has happend to me 3 times already, with no clear cause on my end, only now i file a bug report since 3 is the lucky number or something

also there is no catching back loading bar, since it does´nt seem that it lags behinds, more like it cant send packets or something

Well sounds like you're disconnecting from the server

So the cause is most likely your internet provider

pretty sure that always says nil nil

also it doesn't have to be your whole internet connection

It can just be something on the route to the battle host

#

and then you only disconnect from part of the internet

not all of it

either way, i don't think that's something either you or us can solve

you can pay attention to which battle host it happens on (you can see host bot in spectators in lobby) and avoid that server cluster

I'm having symptoms similar to this, but my logs appear different or inconclusive.

Symptoms: Game appears to disconnect, my client gets a loading/falling behind bar, but never catches up. Chat stops working, but I can go back to lobby and type there. If I disconnect and rejoin, some re-loading can happen, but depending on what the rest of the team does (do they pause and wait? seems to mess it up again), there's no re-entry. Full quitting of the app and restarting/rejoining does seem to work.

Log doesn't seem to have any disconnection notices, my internet is fine, and my speeds are fine, all as far as I can tell.

How can we troubleshoot this? Ping shows no packets dropping in general, internets seem fine in general. What can we test to ensure we can get to all network endpoints that are needed for a game? Is there better way to debug "networking" on intarwebs than ping? What do we look at in the logs? is there a debug/logging flag to get better logs?

also, is there any cache/temp files that should get deleted, everything was fine for a few weeks and this just started happening yesterday so maybe some update was pushed down, or the server side was updated?

Just because your overall internet connection works fine doesn't mean the connection to that particular place in the network where the server is located is fine.

Theres nothing to troubleshoot other than figuring out which host it is that people struggle so much with

I deleted the cache dir and the engine dirs and it seems to have fixed it

i had a new engine folder dated yesterday that coincides with the problems.

but it also could have been a different host, however yesterday I even rebooted which should have cleared any local dns caching or any session persistence

makes me wonder what host stickyness exists and/or what dns TTLs are set.

almost feels like one of the clusters has a terrible connection to somewhere in the world

Still happening to me, a few times yesterday and again just now. Yesterday I removed the cache and engines directory but that seems to have had no impact.

I'll try a full reinstall next. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
