#Mines Rework

Currently mine layers have to sit there and build on a mine until it's complete. this often leaves them vulnerable. More importantly, many exemptions to typical builder behavior has to be made to maintain balance.

  • mine layers cannot assist other mine layers
  • mine layers cannot repair or reclaim
  • mine layers cannot assist other build projects

There's a way for me to easily accomplish the following:

  • mines are laid instantly, but do not activate/cloak for x number of seconds.
  • slow blinky light happens to indicate when the mine isn't ready yet

EZ. Thoughts?

@chilly lagoon

#

The technical way I would accomplish this is through the evolution gadget.

I thought minelayers can repair now?

#

also, while we're on the topic, I have a note

#

"cormlv canassist = false / legmlv"

#

I think this means that cormlv has canassist as false but armmlv doesn't?

That sounds like an oversight to me.
I might be wrong about the repair thing. It's been a hot minute since I've been able to play bar last

wide pilot
#

doesn't look like that's the case

#

sorry, I forgot what it was about and it might've been wrong PandaWorried

#

the legion one is inconsistent, but that's just legion

#

so nevermind me

#

but yes, both mlvs can repair. Legion can't

#

"mines are laid instantly" is not really how economy in bar works btw, unless you want to stockpile them and have players overpay for that

Instantly, very fast... You get the idea.
End goal is that a minelayer can just drop mine after mine that isn't primed yet allowing it to deploy them a lot faster without having to worry about cheesy strategies around abusing mine build speeds

I get the idea, you don't get it. You're not supposed to be able to drop that amount of resources on the field instantly

#

also, minelayer micro with dropping mines on units chasing it sounds terrible

charred yacht
#

Sure.
The mines would be visible when first built, and they would do tiny explosion. They also have very small health, meaning even scout vehicles would be able to kill them before they came online

Are minelayers supposed to be able to lay a minefield while under fire?

#

Mine build time should be kept low enough that interrupted builds are prevented in the first place.

With some extra effort, I can make it so that the mines build themselves for a resource cost. The mind layer would become a mine seeder so to speak and the minds would soak up resources until they were fully built by themselves.

this one - yes. Dropping mines while running away - no

#

I don't see the problem you're trying to solve

#

Why is the minelayer being vulnerable while laying mines a bad thing

Ahh, skill gap misunderstanding.
I am ass at the game. My APM is low. Issuing build, retreat, rebuild commands based on current conditions makes mine layers difficult for me to use.
If they plopped out their mines really quickly without introducing cheesy strategies, it would make it easier for me and other bad players to use.

#

"I like it how it is" is a valid response. There's no problem here. Just an alternative way of doing things if it is preferable to the way things already are.

Mines have to be built outside of enemy line of sight anyway. Enemy isn't going to walk into them if they spot them being built.

Minelayer has stealth field, so mine being built does not show on enemy radar. If mines build themselves behind minelayer, enemy can see them showing on radar and then disappearing, easy to understand that minefield is in construction. And radar dots can be shot too.

Mines already build terribly fast in energy consumption. New player can ruin he's own game by dragging a mine grid, and minelayer eating up all energy for ages. If change would mean, that mines get set up faster, this could make energy stalls even worse, (and mines could actually take more time to build?).
