#Toolbar Group of Group System

Hello! I was trying to do independent research on units and came across a thought that I would love to be in the base game. Not sure if I have seen any mods or widgets or anything for that matter for this.

To start, Has anyone played Space Engineers? If not, they have a Hotkey/Toolbar system that allows you to CYCLE between toolbars. So you can Say have "Army" units in group 1 of toolbars, you can also have group 2 be constructors, or Sea units. A system like this I think would make micro-managing multiple different fronts/situations far more manageable (granted with a learning curve) as you can have more hotbar options based off the scenario you are in. This would also make saving group bindings feel better as you can just have a flexible toolbar used no matter what the situation is, but also if you already intend on doing Ocean start it is already there with no sacrifice.

Any thoughts, questions, or feedback towards this? Curious what people think who have most definitely played the game 10x my hours, I have actually never done PVP so I am not sure how credible my perspective is for BAR's standards but when it came to Space Engineers, it was incredible to be able to swap my hotbar on the fly depending on what I was doing.

my terminology changes midpost so to simplify, Hotbar and Toolbar are referring to the same thing, my bad for the confusion

#

In other words, a Groups of Groups system

Idk if you know that you can group units between numbers 0-9?

I am saying, say you have 0-9 filled out with all of your options

but you don't want to ungroup anything or you are playing a varied game between land, water, air, etc doesn't matter.

I want a 0-9 for each option seperately.

so I could have a 1/0-9 GROUP of GROUPS be dedicated to Water units, but a 2/0-9 GROUP of GROUPS be dedicated to land units

the only game I have seen do this is Space Engineers, its hard to explain exactly what I am referring to, id maybe need to go open space engineers and record an example

That would mean groups within groups 🤔

in a sense sure, Groups of Groups lol

I could Imagine it working as a widget

it sounds complicated and as I said would be a learning curve for those who are unfamiliar with the system, but once adapted would help significantly with being able to flesh out your groups without sacrificing the group slots for other unit types.

I like to always assign my constructors to #1 for tier 1 and #2 for tier 2 and if I have air constructors they usually go on #3 and/or #4

If I am playing water and land, it would be nice to keep naval constructors on #1 and #2 while keeping my land constructors #1 and #2?

this is just an example though.

If I am in late game, I like to assign lolcannons and nuke launchers to a group so I can quickly select an area to be leveled or blasted, but this takes up 2 whole number groups which could be better used if I am playing a hybrid game between say Water and Land

#

could also be handy when you get constructors from other factions, like you can have an Armada group and a cortex group for example

that widget is exactly what you are suggesting, it effectively allows you to have 9 sets of 9 different autogroups/control groups. The reasoning was that depending on your role and how the game is going, you might not have enough number keys for all your groups or the units in groups would overlap
