Please be warned you are using this at your own risk and you may get a stern speaking-to after the match is over due to not responsing to any communication from anyone. This also puts you at a significant disadvantage due to you being blind to any communication that your team might be providing to you for your own good, i.e. warning you of upcoming enemy forces or a leak in your base.

Chill gaming sessions are great, but please remember this is an RTS game, and that you share a match with up to 15 other people.

You mentioned the CoC like 7 times when that was never brought up. That isn't even relevant here. Lmao.

rose light
#

Hahaha imagine playing a team based game and then cucking yourself from team based information. This is pretty much griefing as basic notifications like pinging enemy runbys would presumably be ignored and therefore unless you have 40 OS+ level of game awareness (top 2%?) you’re going to miss some crucial shit that happens almost every single game.

surreal timber
#

Can't believe I'm agreeing with Nezah on something but, yeah, spot on

rose light
#

I don’t think foreign language speakers is the same situation. At least even if you didn’t speak the language but you saw your username in chat you’d look at the ping and know that the team is trying to communicate with you. But I mean whatever, nobody that uses this would ever be competitive anyways. I just don’t see why you wouldn’t play raptors instead of potentially ruining the game for 7 other players. 😂 total grief

rose light
#

Or….. just ctrl click the toxic persons name…

rose light
#

You know you can literally turn off chat in the base setting of the game right?

sage elm
#

It's cool that you made this widget, but I'd say it's harmful to the game.

sage elm
#

You can block those manually

#

So this widget is to block random chinese spammers?

#

What does that have to do with Chill Mode

#

(btw that happens maybe once a day, in lobby chat)

#

gonna use this for 1v1 to avoid being trash talked after losing 🥺

surreal timber
#

Rarely if ever have I see someone trash talk during 1v1s, way more chill than team games

sturdy breach
#

nah I was memeing

rose light
#

sounds super annoying to team mates - but luckily there is kickban and usually completely unresponsive players just get yeeted in the lobbies i play in anyways. glad they can come blame you afterward, but who knows maybe you'll have your widget turned on so you won't have to hear it anyway

iron tinsel
#

so you still see pings from allies with this enabled? what about drawings?

#

i wouldn't ever use it but i get why you would create a toggleable widget for it

hushed verge
#

./mute all lol -I just perma mute certain ppl

arctic saddle
#

Hi gazling, why wouldn't you just play vs ai in this circumstance?

orchid stag
#

Being able to block all communication is common in games nowadays. You have the option in Dota 2 for example which is an extremely team based game. If aiming for a steam release and a broader audience is still an aim its a feature many people in the casual audience would look for. Does it prevent a player from seeing pings and getting told game relevant information? It does. But at the same time it does open the game to a broader audience, So its win some and lose some

sage elm
orchid stag
#

Its a give and take. Though if valve, who have definitely crunched the numbers and have alot more resources and data, have decided its a good thing for their games. I`m tempted to side with them

sage elm
orchid stag
#

isn't there the new T2 selling mechanism thats going through testing?

#

i'm mainly playing devils advocate here. Communication is obviously important. But if there is a way to make it so all the essential needed functions can be performed without direct communication that seems healthy if the aim is a wider audience

tender loom
#

I disagree that removing communication from a fundamentally cooperative game mode is a net positive.

#

If I'm trying to communicate with someone and they're ignoring the entire lobby, I'm not going to be very interested in continuing to play with that person.

orchid stag
#

The reason that the big games such as Dota2 have options to turn off all text communication is because of player toxicity. A healthy medium would be ways to be able to communicate all the essential information between players without the need for text based typing

#

The new T2 selling system seems like a good mechanical change which achieves that objective for example

tender loom
#

Dota is also much smaller teams. How often is it necessary to mute 7 (!?!?) other players due to toxicity? At that point, you're the common denominator.

orchid stag
#

That's a good response. But still. These big games include the option for all mute for a reason

#

They are still inherently team based games where communication is essential to success and yet they still offer it as an option

tender loom
#

I think in those other examples, it's much more clear what you're supposed to do without communication intervening though; you follow the minions (whatever they're called, haven't played in over a decade) to towers and fight against their minions and towers and other players.

#

Here we don't have anything nearly as rigid

orchid stag
#

That's fair

#

I still think its gonna be somehing thats going to be requested more and more as the popularity of the game increases and a steam release approaches

tender loom
#

I feel like it's just more likely to get someone booted from a lobby, especially if they don't know what they're doing and want to ignore the team trying to redirect them. They won't even know why they're getting spec or kicked because they didn't see what was getting everyone frustrated during the game.

#

That's an awful experience for a new player.

tender loom
#

Player that got kicked won't know wtf happened

#

That sucks

#

And it's not even unreasonable for the player to get kicked. I don't understand how that's "anal and shitty"

#

What rofl

#

Nvm

#

Lost cause

#

Gg

#

What the actual fuck is that second question

#

This whole widget is a meme

#

K?

stiff summit
#

I would say there is about a 0-1 douche average per match, I ctrl-click that douche. Problem solved. It's really not that hard

#

If I was hyper-sensitive to people's advice, it would be 1-2 people per match I would have to mute. The t2 selling widget is neat and I try to be a proponent of it, but in reality is can't replace what the tech player does in an 8v8 today and I'm not sure if it will ever be able to.

#

Today I was frontline on isthmus and I got no support from the guy behind me and he was even telling me to make rezz bots for the naval player before I even got a con out and he was drawing arrows and shit. I didn't need to mute the whole room for that, I didn't even bother to mute him, I just said nothing and kept playing like he didn't say a word and nothing happened

arctic saddle
# tender loom I think in those other examples, it's much more clear what you're supposed to do...

I think this is extremely important to point out. In league, you can 'ignore' all - but yes, you're queueing quite literally for a role now - top, bottom, support, etc - and anything beyond that you get reported. But since this game doesn't predefine roles, there's no guarantee that anyone going anywhere knows what to do or how to do it. at least a mid laner knows to go mid or a jg knows 'go jungle'. beyond that i think enforcing roles would enforce a meta and with the free form gameplay allowed, i don't think defining a meta is as beneficial.

That said, if they had the server hosting, and then a 'queue' mode where you queued 8v8 always on the insert bridge map, and you pre picked your role, it could make more sense to allow 'mute all communication' - i still think it's a net negative to ban even pings, but we also don't have toxic 'question mark' pings or 'ping alive' over and over either.

arctic saddle
#

Correct and agreed. And fwiw, I don't disagree that it has roles, it's just that public lobbies are not always equal and the maps chosen aren't always the same style 8v8, so the roles are not always equal. But again, If there was a isthmus "queue" where you could solidify roles thru game logic , it'd be different. To me

stiff summit
#

There are no 100% predefined roles, there are assumptions that aren't always followed. People can all-in T1 on glitters, for example

#

Making a matchmaking screen that made the current meta into something you selected your roles from would be a very bad idea IMO

tender loom
# stiff summit There are no 100% predefined roles, there are assumptions that aren't always fol...

The game doesn't explicitly support roles. That's a player made phenomenon. I'd be shocked if matchmaking would support the idea if matchmaking ever even supports 8v8 without hour long queues, let alone matching an appropriate strength air player with appropriate strength frontliners while a bunch of idiots are queueing as Eco. You'd literally die in queue from delusion before you find a match.

tender loom
#

We shouldn't because queue would be forever to fire

#

Idk man, at this point, bad faith arguments aplenty here. Please stop pinging me into this thread going forward.

tender loom
#

Please don't ping me
Pings twice anyways

#

Fuck off lol

#

Idk why I thought you could follow instructions 🤣

tender loom
#

By the way, I have never been more genuine about any subject in my entire life. No troll, I promise you. I genuinely do believe that this is a terrible idea.

#

Mute me daddy peepoclown

#

Also side note, this isn't a fix, it's a handicap.

tender loom
#

Ignore other players worldview

Sir, that's what your widget says on its label.

#

More projection than an IMAX theater.

rose light
#

I think 99% of players will find this widget extremely useless, but nobody is forcing anybody to use it and the feedback to the widget creator was already provided.

#

I do enjoy this shit storm you two are stirring though, please continue.

tender loom

Reading these threads makes me think that the author of the widget made it to protect the player base from himself.

orchid stag
#

It is kinda funny in a thread called chill mode

dull cradle
#

so I've played a little... I can confirm, even after watching countless matches, replays, videos and more adding up to hundreds and hundreds of hours

Every now and again I needed that ping,
I needed that ping because when I launched the game, readied up and started playing there is one thing you WILL do wrong, one thing that DOES affect teammates

You are 1 guy, and you have the audacity to degrade team coms in a team game for your fragile experience
If you want a nicer game, with more "Nice!" pings in chat when you kill geo right as they tech like I ping a tonne, be a teammate that we want

dull cradle
#

open source is not defined by 1 persons ability to get to do something, if you aren't following the direction of the open source project they don't have to add anything that you produce, open source is an opportunity not a right and for you to not know this is honestly delusional and and probably dishonest

I don't get spam pinged... I actually play as a team <3

#

makes something to purposely degrade team play => tells others that they are "tear[ing] other people down"

#

and I respect that, I just hope your views on open source aren't what you have stated here, as it can be truly crushing to dev something only for it to not fit in the bigger direction of the game and be rejected
