Ok, final notes on the setup.
The commander's torso has to be at rest. This means it is looking straight where its legs are looking. The legs can be moving, but the torso must not.
Finishing firing the laser will put the torso at rest after some time, but firing the dgun will never put the torso at rest (it will remain facing wherever it was facing seemingly indefinitely). Issuing a move command after the dgun command interrupts this behaviour and the torso will eventually go to rest.
If the torso is in the state of rest, firing the dgun slightly outside its range to the commander's right hand side (dgun hand side) will lock up the commander (the dgun command remains active without ever finishing) without firing the dgun. It does not matter if the legs are moving at the time. The arc around the dgun arm seems to be roughly 160 degrees (I'm completely eyeballing this)
