#More maps with underwater geos; enable underwater T2 hazardous geos

To the tune of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuI9PDIpnNA:

Underwater geos, underwater emozstonks
Underwater power that has under t'water sunk
They're built in the sea by the floating tier one cons
Underwater geos, underwater emozstonks

They've got hydrothemal vents in their underwater trunk
From the deep seafloor they give you a neat chunk ecoenergy
If a submarine raids them, there's an underwater 💥 bonk
Underwater geos, underwater emozstonks

Now, as I was writing this suggestion and finding rhymes to stonks @cold bramble has pointed out that T1 geos already exist. Sick! How come they're not used more?

One of the common issues with naval play in BAR is that the terrain is... a bit boring. It's all a flat plane, and there's little to fight over but metal. Well, suppose we had geos to fight over? That's not much, but it's something, right?

T1 geo is indeed on the construction ship buildlist and it can be built underwater:
https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/Beyond-All-Reason/blob/master/units/CorShips/corcs.lua
https://github.com/beyond-all-reason/Beyond-All-Reason/blob/master/units/CorBuildings/LandEconomy/corgeo.lua

I would also love to be able to upgrade them to T2, which is half of the suggestion. I think it's perfectly fine to just have the hazardous variant, there's no need to bother with getting the Cerberus underwater-capable, and the Prude can be disabled underwater for balance of options.

The rest of this request is to mappers - use this tool more! 😄

More maps with underwater geos; enable underwater T2 hazardous geos

Tbh, I’m a cortex player and I wouldn’t mind arm getting an underwater prude. The prude will be less useful underwater than on land because of the way water suppresses AOE.

Changed the title to account for the fact that this is literally a O(1)-liner game-side, most likely. 😄

cold bramble
#

4-liner. 😛

#

Gotta change 4 units!

worn spruce
#

There. 😄 4 units though? T2 naval cons...? oh and the geos? yeah

Air geo when?

cold bramble
#

Ultimately it’d be fun to give cortex an alternate underwater Cerberus, but it’s not at all necessary for my purposes.

can someone with access to the game load this up and look, I could swear there's an UW geo in the lower-left and upper-right

There should be underwater geo indeed, no reason not to

#

if you nuke the geo point, does it appear underwater now, like mex points do ?

@high seal I am approaching the release of Jade Empress 1.1. Did anything come of this?

with the option of inverted maps, and the tendency for people to put geo points on top of elevated positions in traditional map design, the need for water geos is greater than ever 😀

twin berry
#

I feel like an underwater geo should be T2, since I feel there’s need to be an upgrade in tech for it to be usable in water as well as the thermal system not being flooded

cold bramble
#

In my specific case, I want to discourage building tidals in the corners of Jade Empress, but not starve navy players of energy. Geos are a great way to accomplish that.

#

there should be underwater geo as well as offshore wind turbines imo

twin berry
#

Turbines would be an interesting T2 idea for a windmill, since there aren’t any turbines yet in the game(I think the tidal generator isn’t a turbine?)

and the tidal generators,

Sea eco doesn’t need to be a copy of land please

Geo is a good idea tho

#

Gives reason to contest sea, especially if its far out

delicate sinew

You don’t contest mex spots?

there's plenty of possible stuff, current turbines, wave turbines, thermal solar plants...

It’s interesting that it’s not like land

That was meant for hallu oops

Some cool futuristic stuff could also be considered if you think about the fact that it’s likely far far future

Antimatter generator

Eats 100 metal, generates 10000 e

whole elbow
#

Technically a nuclear plant transforms metal into energy already.

cold bramble
#

I think such a structure would be miserable to manage.

twin berry
#

I think such a structure is incredibly easy to manage, if you consider the fact that you can argue the EXACT SAME THING with the energy converters

cold bramble
#

That's because it's only one-way though. If you added a reactor that eats metal, now you've made a loop. Metal makes energy makes metal makes energy makes metal makes energy ad infinitum.

solemn bough
#

Thats the point

#

You really dont wanna stall. Could be legion Afus. 4k energy profit

#

With a twist ofc

wind summit
#

i didn't like this idea until i heard "legion afus", then it started sounding like an excellent fit.

as far as what was being discussed above with "we need more kinds of turbines"...i don't think aesthetic is really what a new eco structure, if one were to even be considered, should be designed around. theoretical new naval eco structure also really shouldn't destroy be functionally a copy of a land eco structure (aside from naval t2 geos seeming like they probably should exist and would allow for some more options with map design/yielding better results when flooding existing maps)

unreal lodge
#

sea eco is underwhelming right now, it's costly, fragile, and inefficient

#

given fragility and sheer annoyance, eg derping boat pathing, it should be worth more than it is. also makes sense as cooling systems with infinite seawater are a lot more efficient...

wind summit
#

at t1, that largely comes down to the fact that most maps have op wind and not op tidal. at t2...at least your fusions require sonar to find and units with torpedoes/depth charges to kill? i still think t2 naval eco would be fine if its converters got a small buff to their conversion ratio, combined with next engine update making naval cons/engis far less derpy (well, all cons, but naval ones suffer the most currently)

So ... any reason for me not to make this?
