I agree with this BASED idea.
Little lobsters who come and ask questions listen to "advice" from 12os trolls and they're going to think its very smart, then they will also get stuck at 12os.
Altho for new players im not sure if it will matter at all, because they won't know what the funny number means, because they haven't even enabled OS showing up in game/lobby anyway.
I got "coached" recently by a lobster, and called names when he was brown (aka very low rating) in-game, and he didn't have OS showing enabled. Anyway, for it to matter more, OS needs to be introduced to little lobsters, and it needs to be enabled to show by default.

I strongly agree with damgams point that mentor role already exists, and ppl with that role are supposed to be the trusted advisors. Im not against the idea of ranks being tied to discord, but I think its not very practical and you run the risk of intimidating players of "lesser skill" from sharing their opinions.

HOWEVER I think it would be super cool if eventually you could link your player profile page via bar discord, so you can checkout each others full account stats. (Like ZK profile page)

Also, players exist that dont play pvp, but have 1000's of hours of pve or single player exclusive experience. What will be done for these players?

Or even an achievement system where u gain certain levels of mastery. This could be a great non volitile and inclusive way of measuring relative experience depending on the tasks and could be reflected in discord.

I find it super strange that Damgam keeps explaining to the players what they and and what they dont want.
I also like ranks, because it's what you use to messure if you are doing good or not.
Without ranks you will have the bronze league hero claiming he's an ESL champion

this is good idea but rank icon says nothing, so I propose to just show it properly - OS value for 1v1, team and FFA - OR only one of them but the highest one; and refresh it daily for all users

I'd much prefer to just show all 3 or just 1v1+team, because I do think FFA is more on the casual side of things; and also I put much higher value in 1v1 because ppl who are good in 1v1s are usually good also in team, but the opposite is not true

also IMO much better to show "Match Rating" and not "leaderboard rating" because I feel the latter is kinda "who grinds more" - so the latter is worse for new players as it is updated much slower

This would be pretty hard to achieve given how Discord works. A set of discrete OS thresholds like the chevrons fits a discrete role system much better than a continuous OS number, and I'm not sure how you could sensibly display a continuous OS for people. A bot command for lookup, maybe, but it'd require people to actually connect their Discord to Teiserver, and would probably be best as opt-in, too.

where do you see 120? so each person would have 3 icons, each icon showing between 1-40+; anyway it could be limited to just showing 1 icon, the one where someone has strongest skill, it also make sense because most players play only 1 mode; so eg pro_randy will only show icon like"1v1 40+" while 90% players would have like "team 15+" (or better some team icon instead of word)

ok i see your point about 120, but then if there is some discord limitation it could be easily worked around by having separate icon for rank and separate for type (1v1 team ffa) so this way u "optimize" down to 43 icons 🙂
